Birmingham New Street is the city’s main train station and the second busiest station in the country outside of London. It is a destination station for people travelling from both London and Glasgow.


Birmingham has six universities located in its Greater area. This makes it the highest concentrated area of higher education institutions behind London. Five of these (University of Birmingham, BCU, University College Birmingham, Aston and Newman University) are within the city limits and are a major driving force for the local economy. A large number of students who attend university here also end up working as graduates in the city.
