Christchurch Business FrontThe area around the airport in the north of town is the major hub of local business, with the manufacture of transport equipment, distribution, communications and engineering accounting for the bulk percentage of the GVA. In town, tourism and retail make up the bulk of industry, although Christchurch isn’t so reliant on this type of business as much as neighbouring seaside towns like Poole and Weymouth are.
Business ParksMost of the main business parks lie along the road west to Bournemouth. The most popular of these are Aviation Park just by Bournemouth Airport, Clarendon Business Centre, Priory Industrial Park and Williams Industrial Park, just off to the east near New Milton. Bristol Road is the best area for office rentals, with most people working in the area commuting from the wider area and making use of the motorway link.
Transport LinksThe main road in and out of Christchurch is the A338. It meets with the A35 westwards that goes all along the south coast and the A31 eastwards through New Forest National Park which joins on to the M3 & M27. Christchurch Railway Station conveniently sits on the line that goes from London Waterloo to Weymouth, allowing for frequent travel to central London throughout the day. The station is also a main stop on all local routes too. The closest airport is Bournemouth Airport, with Easyjet, Ryanair and Aer Lingus being the main airlines flying in and out of the airport daily.
EducationMany families live in the area, so there are only primary and secondary schools in Christchurch. The closest university is Bournemouth University.
Social LifeNot surprisingly, sailing plays a big part in the town’s social scene. A lot of recreational activity takes place around the harbour where there is lots of green space and a golf course. Locals looking for a fun night out will normally take a short bus or train over to Bournemouth, where the large student population means there are more pubs and clubs.
