Dundee plays a vital role as a large city connecting the north and south of the country together. It is seen as something of a regional centre, with most people from surrounding towns such as Arbroath, Forfar, St. Andrews, Perth and Kinross commuting to work here. Many companies have large centres based in and around the city. Some of these companies include BT, Tesco, HBOS and the University of Dundee and for any business interested, a move to the area is also seen as a good idea.
There are plenty of business parks and centre dotted down by the river and throughout the city. Some of the most well-known parks and areas for businesses are located at Dundee Technology Park, Faraday Street, Claverhouse Industrial Park, Riverside Business Park, Camperdown Street and Dryburgh Industrial Estate.
Dundee is served by its own airport that primarily serves as a business route between the city centre , London Stansted and Jersey. The A90 wraps around the top of the city from the east and is the main route north to Aberdeen and west to Perth. The A92 south is the main route to Edinburgh. A direct train from Dundee to Edinburgh takes on average 1 hour 15 minutes. Travelling to Glasgow by train takes on average 1 hour 30 minutes, roughly the same length of time it takes to get there by car on the A9 and M80.
Dundee is famously known for being a large university city and has a rolling student population of roughly 17,000. This is split between the University of Dundee, University of Abertay Dundee and St. Andrews just 9 miles south. It has helped bolster the city as having a young population and one of the reasons for the city having the 4th largest retail market in Scotland.
