Leicester Business Front

Head east of Birmingham on the M69 to Leicester and you’ll soon be in the biggest economic area of the East Midlands. Leicester is known as a great place for engineering, finance and most importantly, making crisps (it’s the home of Walkers). A lot of banks including Barclays, HSBC and RBS all have offices in the city, and its GVA is continually growing.

Business Parks

Most business parks lie in the west of the city alongside the M1. These include Grove Park, Meridan Business Park, Oswin Road and Dunn House. The city centre has a lot of great locations for office space. Some of the best include Friar Lane, Jarrom Street, St. Nicholas Circle and Tigers Way.

Transport Links

All roads lead east in Leicester. With the M1 going right alongside the city, it has proven to be a valuable commodity and powerful link between north and south. The M69 & M6 in the east also makes getting to Birmingham incredibly easy. Leicester railway station is a major travel hub for regional trains and routes around the country. An express service straight to London St Pancras can take just 1 hour 7 minutes. The closest airport is East Midlands Airport, just 12 miles north of town via the M1. It is one the busiest airports in the UK with over 4 million passengers (and growing) annually travelling through.

Education

There are two universities in Leicester: University of Leicester and De Montfort University. The former is home to the National Space Centre, making it one of the very few institutions in the UK to have space science as a speciality. The latter is a relatively new college having been established fully in 1992. It is known for having exceedingly high satisfaction rates amongst students.

Social Life

Leicester is described by many as having the feel of a European city due to the large number of arts venues and green spaces. If you’re ever looking to get a sense of this, a visit to Melton Road in the evening highlights the great mix of cultures. The city is also known for housing some of the biggest festivals in the country and has the biggest Diwali celebrations, Caribbean Carnivals and comedy festivals in the UK.
